Funding from a strategic partner has enabled Challenger Gold to announce this start date, unlocking critical steps in the production process, including ore milling. The company is currently awaiting approval for its Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The company has identified 480,000 tons of high-grade ore near the surface at Hualilán, containing approximately 85,000 ounces of gold and 495,000 ounces of silver.
In a statement, Challenger Gold said, “The primary goal of this strategy is to capitalize on the current high price of gold (above US$2,500 per ounce) to generate early cash flow. These funds will support project development, including a flotation circuit with tailings leaching, a potential heap leaching platform, and an open-pit mining fleet at Hualilán.”
The company anticipates receiving EIS approval from provincial authorities shortly, allowing it to proceed with production. Additionally, they are preparing a separate environmental impact report for transporting ore by road, which will be the final permit required before starting contracted milling.
